History :

There were two versions of the Conservation Plan for the Manly Quarantine Station - the first in 1987, modified in 1992 and a Management Plan prepared in 1996, signed in 1998, was released for public viewing in June 1999.

A Seminar was held at the Quarantine Station on 4th Sept, 1999, to examine the weaknesses in the Conservation Management Plan.

The Heritage Council ruled in mid 1999 that the Conservation Management Plan was not satisfactory.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service appointed Peter Freeman to prepare recommendations to ensure that the Conservation Management Plan was satisfactory. Peter Freeman invited interested parties to prepare submissions outlining their concerns. He has given permission for the recommendations from the Conservation Management Plan 2000 to be reproduced on this website.

Peter Freeman prepared a new Conservation Management Plan 2000 which was delivered to members of the community working group on December 10th, 1999 and was discussed by them and Peter Freeman on Tuesday, December 14th. This new Conservation Plan 2000 was  presented to the National Parks and Wildlife Service on December 17th, 1999. After modification by the NPWS, the document was presented to the Heritage Council.

On March 1st, 2000, the Heritage Council returned the Conservation Management Plan 2000 to Peter Freeman for further work but the final copy was approved by the Heritage Council in April 2000.
